3 Steps To Get Effective Relief From Sinusitis
Many over-the-counter medications, home remedies, and lifestyle changes can help prevent or reduce sinus pain and relieve sinus pain if your symptoms are not severe. Below are a few ways you can try to treat sinus pain:
Steam
While there is no sufficient evidence that shows that inhaling steam is an effective treatment for sinus infections, many people may find that inhalation helps relieve sinus infection symptoms. People can bend over a basin of hot water, cover their heads with a towel to trap the steam and inhale deeply to relieve sinus or upper respiratory infections, or inhale through a diffuser when oil is added to boiling water.
Water
While sinus symptoms make it difficult to drink, you still need to drink plenty of water. Warm compresses can help relieve swelling and open nasal passages, relieve pressure and sinus pain. Apply a warm, damp washcloth to your nose, cheeks, and eyes to ease sinus pain by opening your nasal passages and thinning mucus.
Medications
While these treatments can help, they are not always effective for chronic sinusitis and do not prevent symptoms from returning. Chronic sinusitis and sinus headaches can sometimes be permanently cured, but this may depend on the reasons they affect you. If your allergy is causing sinusitis, your doctor can recommend allergy medications or nasal sprays.
If sinus symptoms do not improve with home treatment and sinus symptoms persist for more than 7-10 days, you should see your doctor for treatment.
